Conventional systems use dead end lines to supply the dialysis installation. During downtimes, the water stagnates in the dead end lines of these units at room temperature. The longer the downtime, the higher the risk of contamination with micro-organisms. Extensive rinse is needed to help eliminate these unhealthy deposits. 

Safety through prevention is guaranteed with the double-hose connection system of Herco that can be heat disinfected. Even if the dialysis machine is not running, or is separated from the loop, the supply hose is still connected to the system and water passes constantly through it.

Stagnant water in the system can cause growth of micro-organisms and formation of biofilm. Dead end lines within dialysis machines present a particularly high risk. Possible consequences for patients are acute or chronic reactions like fever, shivering, headache and endotoxine-induced health damages.
